Logitech Wireless Headset Repair

This is a video on how to fix the left ear phone from cutting in and out of sound. This is the logitech wireless headset. This video was done from my cell phone because I had people asking how I fixed mine. Skill: -Basic de-soldering and soldering -Steady hands would be nice as everything is pretty small. -Magnifying glass will also help Tools: -Small philips screw driver (+) -Small precision flat head (-) -Butter knife or pry tool -Soldering Iron -de-soldering iron (recommended) Materials: -Solder -Donor set of earphones (ear bud style recommended) So I'm not the greatest tutorial maker in the world, but I just wanted to put this video up for people that have the same problem as I did and want to fix it without paying for logitech to fix it or having to buy another. This is a great headset, and for the prices you can find them for now, I think they are definitely worth it. I got mine off of ebay for shipped and it was refurbished so I received it in an RMA bag. Since logitech would not cover the sale (ebay) under any warranty, I couldnt have them fix it, so I figured out how to do it on my own. After some extensive searching for a disassembly, i found nothing. So I took things into my own hands, and figured it out. Thankfully I didnt break anything. I did accidentally drop my soldering iron on my head set for a second and it kind of melted one of the plastic pieces, but no major damage, plus its covered by the padding lol.

Computer Sound Issues - How To Fix

!±8± Computer Sound Issues - How To Fix

1. Make sure your speakers are on and plugged into power.

As I've said in other articles, nothing can run without power. Make sure your speakers are plugged into a power outlet and that the outlet itself is working.

2. Make sure your speaker wires are in the right place.

Basic Speakers may just have the one wire, but If you have anything other than the bare minimum, there's going to be 2, 3 or even 4. And if you don't plug the right wires into the corresponding plugs, your system won't work. The one that every system has is the plug for the main speakers and it's pretty universal that green corresponds to these, and therefore should go into the green jack. If there aren't matching colors, the speaker jack should have some sort of symbol depicting a speaker or headphones radiating sound, or something similar. If you have anything more than a two speaker system, for example a 5 speaker surround sound system, you will have more to deal with. The green will be for the front left and right speakers, but you will have two more wires that correspond to the front center speaker and the back left and back right speakers. On my Logitech system these are black and orange respectively. Now there is another jack for a microphone, which I have encountered as pink most of the time. But even without a color there should be a symbol depicting a microphone beside it.On a side note, most sound cards will have three plugs, one for the main speakers, another for the front center speaker, and one for a microphone. In order to have a surround sound computer system you usually need a higher end sound card that supports those extra back two. But don't worry if you have a big speaker set and don't have enough plugs for everything, the main speakers will still work, you'll just have to upgrade Cards to get the surround sound experience. Now if all else fails and your cords and plugs are the wrong colors and there aren't any symbols depicting which is which, a simple trial and error will eventually work, plug each wire into each plug, and one of them should eventually work.

3. Check windows volume control aren't turned down or muted.

I know I've done this a thousand times. Turned on some music, heard nothing, had a mini-panic attack about my speakers being broken, and then realizing that the sound was just muted. To start with, make sure your speakers themselves are turned on. Many speakers will have a button that turns them on when they're plugged in. They also may have a volume knob that you can turn to adjust the sound, make sure this isn't turned all the way down. Most applications that involve sound (for example windows media player or itunes) will have a built in volume control somewhere in the interface. These can look like a slider or meter that shows a speaker with sound waves coming out to show what it is. Make sure this is turned up and the mute box (if it has one) is unchecked. Now Windows has a master volume control that sits near the clock on the bottom right corner of the screen. If you double click the speaker icon, then the sliders will come up. Make sure they are all turned up to how loud you want them. Now if all this doesn't work, it could simply be your system is trying to play through the wrong device. If (in Vista) you right click your volume control and select "playback devices" from the list, you should open up a window that lets you change the device.

Or in XP, you can right click your volume control and go to "Adjust Audio Properties" and then go to the Audio tab.

Now if you have more than one device in this screen then select one, and click set default, and try your sound, and then the other, click set default, and try the sound. Click OK when you find the one that works.

4. Make sure your sound card drive is installed and working.

Now this step is a little bit more complex, though not awfully so. Sound cards have drivers that run them, so if there's no driver, then your sound card won't work. There sound be a driver CD that came with your computer with the right driver on it, so look for that and use the CD to install or re-install the driver. Failing that, most manufacturers will have the drivers to their products on their website so if you know the maker of your card you can simply go to the website and download it. Additionally if you know the model number of your card you can sometimes input that into Google or other search engine and it will take you to a site where you can download your driver. In order to find the model number of your card you have to look at the card and you have to take apart the computer to do so and I don't really recommend that unless you really know what you're doing.

Well that should be about it for basic sound troubleshooting. This should cover anything that's not a real malfunction, hope it helps!

How Do You Call?

!±8± How Do You Call?

Are you still answering a phone with a cord at home or is your cellular your primary means of communications? We live in the age of the virtual phone. You can live anywhere in the country and have any area code for your phone number with just a few clicks of the mouse. In our office we have a mix of everything, my house almost as much.

We use a couple of standard VoIP lines to give us some flexibility in our calls and on our toll free numbers. We have 4 Skype(tm) numbers connected to a Vosky server, and finally a real copper wired phone line as a back up. We haven't used it in a year.

My favorite way to talk to people is over Skype(tm). With the correct set up, you can have very clear and easy to understand conversations without yelling at each other and you can add video if you like. My neice likes to "call" from my brothers laptop then run around showing me things with the camera. It really is pretty cool sometimes. The laptop works fine for hotel rooms and any where on the road. You can use a headset if you want a semi-private conversation. You can do much better for your home or office.

For business, I prefer to be at my desk when I talk to people. It doesn't matter if I am at work or home, I really don't like cradling a phone in my neck even if it is cordless. Bluetooth is ok, but sometimes I feel like I can't give the people my full attention walking around my house anyway, so why are we even talking? With the set up that I have at both desks, it is very easy to talk to anyone, give them the attention they need and have quick access to all of our files.

Setting up Skype(tm) at home to sound like a pro is easier than you think. Most laptops have a built in webcam now that is ok and the anti echo feature in skype isn't to bad even in a hotel room. The probably work better than your cell phone. For the office don't cheap out and get a system then will run as well as many high dollar conference systems.

You will need at least a dual core computer and I suggest 2GB of ram. The skype download is free just by going to http://www.skype.com. There is even a pretty good Mac version. You have the option of gettiing a virtual phone number like I did for a year, and unlimited long distance in the US and Canada for .95 a month. I did all of that.

A really good microphone to get is the Blue Snowball. It ranges from to 9 depending on where you buy it. the Snowball makes your desk look like a cool retro studio and the sound pickup and noice cancellation are excellent. If you want a cleaner look like a video conference room there are a couple of good boundary microphones for - 9 from several brands that also use a USB port.

A boundary microphone is one that is designed to sit flat on the desk surface and take up very litte space. Most are under one inch tall. The advantage is no talking in the toilet type echo sound and the computer doesn't have to process your sound so much to eliminate the echo. The Blue Snowball has some brains internally to do the same thing, all using USB power.

The next piece to spluge on for your office or home is the camera. There are several great cameras for to 9. The Apple(tm) camera for the mac looks surprisingly like the pro grade computer camera from Polycom(tm). I use the Logitech(tm) pro series and they work great. Every computer in our offices has one.

Last but not least is the lighting in your home or office. Keep in mind that video conference software only sends the dots on the screen that change. The more stable you can make your office environment the better the picture and sound quality will be. A ceiling fan spinning in the background wastes a bunch of bandwidth sending the moving fan images. Miniblinds are another bandwidth hog. If the shadows of the miniblinds are visible or the mini blinds themselves are visible in the back ground, every cloud passing by starts sucking up bandwidth as all the shadows change.

Ideally your room should be an interior room or at least don't have any windows behind you. If your office is like mine, then the last splurge is a light to go behind your computer monitor and light up your face so you don't look like "Shadowman".

That is really it, a computer, free software, a micorphone, camera and a desk lamp and you are ready to video chat like a pro. So go ahead, put the phone down, you won't need it any more.

Important Things to Consider When Purchasing a Drill

!±8± Important Things to Consider When Purchasing a Drill

If you are looking to purchase a drill for your own use, you may at times feel overwhelmed with the wide range of choices that are available. Here are just some of the things you need to consider when looking to buy a drill.

Cordless or Corded

Cordless drills are extremely convenient. They can be used anywhere especially around those nooks and crannies in remote locations where a corded tool would not be able to reach. There is freedom to work anywhere as long as the battery stays charged. But getting a corded drill can have its own perks too. With corded solutions, you don't have to wait for the battery to charge or ever face the frustration of dead batteries in the middle of an important task.

Cordless drill tends to be lighter than their corded counterparts, and this is true for low-powered cordless tools. But for high powered cordless drills, it tends to weigh more than the corded drills. Cordless drills are always safer to use since there are no cords to stifle your movements and act as a possible trip hazard. But if you desire torque and sheer power for long hours of work, then it makes sense to go for a corded drill.

The biggest problem with cordless drills is the battery life. Even the best battery around would last for couple of years before you need to get a new one. Often, it is good to buy a new cordless drill than to buy tow batteries. These batteries are expensive. So, if you plan to look for a drill that can last more than two years or more, or for a corded drill.

How to Pick a Chuck

The chuck refers to the part of the drill that holds those bits together in place. When looking to select the right chuck, there are two things to consider, the type and size. The chuck ranges from size 1/4, 3/8 and 1/2.There are two types, keyed and keyless.

Important Features to Include

Reverse Mode is an important feature to be included in your list of features to look out for when buying a drill. Reverse mode is important to remove drill bits that get stuck you purchase a drill with a keyless chuck, it will always have reverse. So you would need to check for this feature if you are getting a drill with a keyed chuck.

You would need to check for speed variation if you plan to drive screws with your drill. It is important to note that different materials you are working with require different speed. It is important for you drill to possess the ability for varying speed according to the type of material you will be working with. A drill that is too powerful will damage the head f the screws while one that is inefficient will not help you when you are trying to drill holes through a wall or a metal object.
